Update #13. Happy Holidays and a catch up on details behinds the scenes
over 1 year ago – Sat, Dec 21, 2024 at 09:23:04 AM

Hello everyone!

I know a few months worth of time has passed since my last update in August. I have been procrastinating heavily and I want to apologize for my absence in the updates. There were some in real life changes that had occurred in July/August that heavily altered my life (Lost my well paying 3d artist job and started going through a divorce). Because of these two events, I have had to put my pursuit of financially pushing City of Myrkesh on the back burner. I have had to bump my hours up at my two jobs to adapt to these two changes, so my free time is limited.

Besides that, we also ran into many hurdles during the whole process of producing the game. Luckily, we were able to complete fulfillment and delivery a game that although, can be improved, is something I am very proud of creating. If I've learned one lesson from making my first game, its MAKE A SMALLER FIRST GAME. In short, I am still financially recovering from this massive project and its going to take some time before I can begin comfortably pushing this project further, whether that be an expansion or just getting con exposure.

I know the campaign has been fully fulfilled for months now, but I have had this urge for the last few weeks to make an update talking about this, to keep you guys in the loop.

What's next?

Now, with the personal life story out of the way, what's next for City of Myrkesh?

In the next step of the journey, I want to try to find some kind of way to adapt this game in the digital space. I did a demo at a shop recently and one of the players suggested it. I have thought of three different avenues for this:

  • Board Game Arena
  • Tabletop Simulator
  • Tabletopia

I have spoken to several developers regarding commission rates to get an idea of how much these adaptations will cost. These are costs I am unfortunately going to need to address in the future though, for the same reasons listed above.

I hope that you guys have enjoyed your time with City of Myrkesh and seen all the time and energy that went into it. When I get into a better position in my personal life, I definitely want to push the game further. I want to create more cards, more mechanics and more monsters. There is still plenty of design space that I can explore in this deckbuilding city. Just need to bide out my time.

To cap this off, let me share some recent pictures I took of some games that occured.

The first set of pictures took place at a gaming café in Crown Point, Indiana.

The last two took place at a Shop called Fair Game in Downer's Grove.

I really hope everyone has a good holiday season. I know this can be a stressful time for some families. I am not sure when I will post my next update, but when I am able to make progress, I will definitely post it here. Thank you everyone who has followed this project.

Update #12. Important Rules Errata Update and Feedback Request
over 1 year ago – Wed, Aug 28, 2024 at 10:32:52 AM

Hey everyone!

I hope everyone is doing well. I still have a goal set forth of playing all of the games I bought at Gencon at least once. So far, I still need to play Leaf, Deep Dive and the Fowl Play Cubitos Expansion.

Important Rules Errata

I wanted to make this update to address a small error on my part that I failed to notice before manufacturing began. This has to do with the way the protection tokens are explained. This affects the following cards:

  • Mimic Machinist
  • Mid-Knight Alpha
  • Ghostly Gallant
  • King's Protector
  • Queen's Defender
  • Revered Cavalier

I will show how they are currently worded in your box.

So here we have the token explainer. Nice little fella here. Currently, protection tokens are worded in the second sentence "After a player draws their hand..." Unfortunately, this is incorrect wording. With this wording, the player would lose a protection token before they were even able to use it on an opponent's turn. So to remedy this, we have to change it to "At the start of a player's turn". Timing is important when this token checks if you spent one or not. Again, I wish I could go back and catch this and I hope you don't think less of City of Myrkesh or me because of this.

I have highlighted it above to show exactly where the new wording will replace the old.

I will absolutely provide anyone with a printable version of the updated token explainer. Just send me an email at g[email protected] and I can get that settled for you.

Feedback

So, seeing that we are fulfilling just the last of the retailer orders, I wanted to open myself to your thoughts about City of Myrkesh.

Have you gotten a chance to get it to the table? And if so, what did you like about it? What did you not like about it? I am my own worst critic and looking back, there are definitely some things I would adjust in order to make the game closer to perfect.

  • There are some keywords like Pack Hunter and Muster that would of made more simple to explain.
  • I wish I included more pictures in the rulebook to help better explain set up and actions.
  • The opening on the Rubble Tokens where the card slides in should be wider.

I would love to hear your thoughts though. When we decide to do a second print run (with enough of a following behind the game), I want the community's input all the way. If you have some time, go ahead and either comment here or send me an email at [email protected]

My ultimate goal would be to continue making cards for this game. Make more card expansions, more monster expansions and more ways for player's to customize the way they play.

Here is a video from Gaming with the Powers talking about their thoughts if you want to see an in-depth review

Also, here is our facebook page if your not a part of it yet

Update 11#. What an amazing Gencon weekend that was!
over 1 year ago – Tue, Aug 06, 2024 at 07:58:14 AM

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone is doing well. Its been a pretty busy last month on my end. I have been meaning to post this update sooner, but as many of you are aware, the biggest board game convention in the states just happened. It was an unforgettable experience and like a excited aunt showing you pictures of her vacation, I want to share some pics here.

We did so many demos. Since our run time was 60-90 minutes, we typically ran 3-4 rounds so players could get the idea of the game.

We had many customers who wanted to take pictures and even get their box signed. I was so not used to signing boxes and it was very honoring that people asked.

We ended up bringing about 30 copies of the game and in combination and sales and passing out a few review copies (even the dice tower was interested), we ended up getting rid of every single copy. Very proud moment for me.

Dragon Egg Games is the main company in which my company, Grindstone Games, published this game through.

There were several different designers showing off their games as well. This included Kuiperium, New Kingdom Gardeners, 5 Wards, Nova Lux, Grumble Stone and Prestige.

Everyone give a round of applause for the owner of Dragon Egg Games, Maxwell Robbins. Without his efforts, we wouldn't have been able to exhibit our games at Gencon. After working with him for the last 3 years, this was the first time I was able to meet him in person. Unforgettable.

So what's the plan moving forward?

That's a good question. Gencon was a pretty big event for this year and took months of prep work to properly execute. However, The City of Myrkesh must continue on. So my priorities are:

  • Get the remaining orders sent out to both backers and retailers.
  • Connect with as many additional retailers as possible to begin getting stock in local game stores. Need to empty that warehouse.
  • Promote the online store to anyone who did not have a chance to back the kickstarter. (https://www.dragonegggames.com/product-page/city-of-myrkesh)

Lastly, I wanted to truly thank everyone who backed the project and put so much of their trust in me over the last few years.

I want to make more expansions whether they be big box or small box, whether they add more cards or a new monster. Just need to get more of a following behind this game. I am going to go update the board game geek page. See you guys in the future.

My company email is [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.

Update #10 Quarter Master Logistics has the games!
over 1 year ago – Fri, Jul 12, 2024 at 08:48:01 AM

Hey Everyone!

Quick update as we are in the home stretch. I have been preparing for Gencon in the background as it is only a few weeks away. I have been notified from Lexx at Quartermaster Logistics:

"Hi, Mark and Max!

I hope you're both having a lovely Wednesday. Here are some updates and reminders as we move forward for City of Myrkesh.

Please find the warehouse receipt for the City of Myrkesh attached. It matched the packing list."

That being shown, Max and I were finally able to send out the Final Notice for addresses for backer kit. You should receive an email asking for you to lock in your addresses.

Please make sure your address is correct in backer kit by Sunday so we can get your games to you in a timely manner.

This has been a real journey of a project for Max and I, and we cannot wait to get these games in your hands.

Lastly, a quick reminder for anyone attending Gencon, I will be at the Dragon Egg Booth on Friday/Saturday from 2pm to 6pm. Come and say hi and lets game. Let me know what your excited to pick up at the convention.

Update #9 Quick Drop in for the 2nd Monster
almost 2 years ago – Wed, Jun 19, 2024 at 09:52:52 AM

Hey Everyone!

This will be a short post since I just made one just made one a few days ago. Just wanted to send out a message to anyone who backed the 75$ tier or higher. If you check your email that you used for Kickstarter, you should see that you have now been granted access to the Intellect Hoarder Gargantau 3D Print and Play documents. There are some STL Files (With and without supports) as well as the Monster Reaction Boards (png and pdf print). Please be sure to read the Scaling Instructions image so your model is the appropriate size when printing. If there are any issues that people may run into or have any suggestions, please comment here or use my email at [email protected] and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

My next update will be when Quarter Master Logistics (Our Distributor) receives the games from Nice Funny Games.
